Wind Farm
This proposed wind farm is located in Lake Superior, just south of the U.S.-Canada border. The location has a very high average annual wind speed, averaging 15 miles per hour wind speed. It is located 30 miles north of the Upper Michigan Peninsula. Even though there is much tourist and recreation activity in the Upper Michigan Peninsula, it is located far enough that it would not be seen by those on the shore.
Futhermore, there is not as much shipping traffic in Lake Superior as no major cities are located along the shores. There is also not much migratory bird traffic traffic in this area. The only drawback is that the water depth is rather deep here, averaging around 300 feet deep.
